A South Yorkshire charity has received a boost towards buying a new specialist ambulance thanks to a £5,000 donation from Westfield Health.
Barnsley Hospice provides specialist palliative care for patients with life limiting illnesses and currently uses an ambulance bought in 1999.
The charity needs to raise nearly £29,000 to purchase a new ambulance that will be used to transport day patients to and from their homes and on day trips.
Janet O’Hara, Grants Fundraiser at the hospice, says: “The current vehicle is used daily and needs costly repairs due to its age, so we want to be able to buy a new vehicle soon. We provide specialist palliative care to the people of Barnsley completely free of charge. The ambulance is very much at the heart of our day-to-day operation and transports our patients safely and comfortably. We are extremely grateful to Westfield for their wonderful donation. They helped purchase our present ambulance and we are delighted that they are able to support us once again.”
