Tummy tucks on the rise

As Brits prepare to bare all on the beach again, cosmetic surgery leader The Hospital Group has reported a massive 89% increase in enquiries for the abdominoplasty procedure in the early part of this year.

The tummy tuck is a popular procedure which removes excess skin and fat from the abdominal area, producing a flat stomach and eliminating unsightly tummy bulge.

As spokesperson for the Group said “The procedure is not necessarily a weight loss procedure, but more about scuplting the shape of the abdomen.  It is popular among those who naturally have a tummy bulge and also suits women whose shape has stretched and sagged after childbirth or those that have lost weight, leaving unsightly excess skin.”

Some guidelines for those considering tummy tuck are:

The patient should be close to their ideal body weight (within 30%)

The patient’s weight should be stable

Tummy tuck is targeted at specific areas of loose skin or fat that is diet- and exercise-resistant

David Ross, CEO of The Hospital Group, said “We are seeing increased interest in the tummy tuck from both men and women who are looking to improve their body shape.  They often find that improving the way they look will also affect the way they feel about themselves, providing a real boost to self-esteem.

"Cosmetic Surgery is a big decision that should not be taken without the full facts.  The Hospital Group offers free consultation with an experienced GMC-Registered Cosmetic Surgeon in clinics around the UK.  We have clinics across the UK for our patients’ convenience with regular attendance from our Cosmetic Surgeons and Patient Care Coordinators.  This is an important first step in anyone’s journey to learning more about cosmetic surgery and there’s no obligation to proceed unless it’s absolutely right for you.”

Where a patient has more weight to lose, then a weight loss procedure such as the gastric band would normally be a better option, as this will help the patient to reduce their calorie consumption and therefore lose weight overall.
