Freshly tanned from her honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, actress Tina Malone updated the Loose Women on her dramatic weight loss last week, revealing that she’s now a size 12 and has lost 7 stone 4 since having her gastric band fitted in March 2010.
“You look amazing” said presenter Kate Thornton. The Loose Women team have been fascinated to track Tina’s progress and this was her 3rd appearance on the show in the last year. Unlike other celebrities, Tina has been public about her decision to have a gastric band from the outset.
Kate asked Tina “Could you have done it without (the gastric band)?”
Tina replied, “No, because I’m OCD, bi-polar – everything to excess… I still want to eat, but actually can’t”.
Tina stressed that she has had to work with the band to achieve her weight loss “You have to keep on top of the aftercare. The Hospital Group look after me every month. They still check my weight, check I’m on the right path. You do have plateaus. But it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life”.
10 months into married life, Tina also shared the impact her weight loss has had on her relationship. “I’m 10 months married now and having lost the weight I have more energy in the bedroom, in the kitchen, cooking and walking the dog”. She also said of her new husband Paul “He’s fiercely proud of what I’ve done”.
Shameless series 9 starts filming in a week and the remainder of series 8 will be shown in August. Tina said “The thinner you get, the more sex you get on and off screen!”. Story lines for Mimi will get very interesting with new relationships and more steamy scenes to show off her new slimline body.
“I’ve been so fat for so long. 23 years. But now I’m in the best place mentally, physically and emotionally that I’ve ever been.”
A spokesperson for The Hospital Group said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Tina over the last year and are delighted to see the results of her weight loss.
She looks positively glowing with health and has slimmed from a size 26 to a 12. She has taken on board our Dietitians’ advice and worked hard to reduce her portion sizes and make healthier food choices.
Having bariatric surgery can make a huge difference to a person’s life. Whilst it’s not a quick fix or an easy option, the health benefits of weight loss are enormous. For example, Tina has found her diabetes has literally disappeared and she sleeps much better now too.
Having a gastric band is not just about dropping dress sizes. For many patients it leads to a much fuller lifestyle, as well as giving them new found confidence and self esteem.”
