People who are undergoing obesity treatment could support these efforts by making small changes to their lifestyle.
According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), Britons could benefit from taking the time to exercise even during a normal working day.
For instance, it said they could walk part of the journey to the office, rather than rely solely on the bus or the train.
Leonie Dawson, a professional advisor at the CSP, also encouraged workers to make the most of their lunch hour, especially as it could make them more productive throughout the afternoon.
"Activity is absolutely essential to health and wellbeing," she commented.
"You can incorporate activity into your possibly sedentary lifestyle to improve your fitness levels."
She was speaking after a study by the CSP revealed that 39 per cent of men and 46 per cent of women admit to feeling out of breath after running for a bus or walking up some stairs.
