Sugar mummy surgery booms as women turn back the clock

A UK cosmetic surgery provider is reporting a rise in the number of 45+ women visiting its 26 clinics in 2009 compared with the same time last year. The Harley Medical Group today reveals an increase in the number of sugar mummies investing in cosmetic procedures to keep them looking fresh for new relationships.  Clinic staff are reporting that many female patients of this age are citing a relationship with a younger partner as the stimulus for investing in cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures.  Dubbed the ‘sugar mummies’, some women are also using divorce money to fund cosmetic procedures. 

Inspired by stars like Madonna, Jennifer Aniston and Sadie Frost, women dating younger men are looking to take years off with a combination of cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures.  With the 45+ age group, Botox is the most popular procedure with treatments up 13% year on year.  Face lifts are the most popular surgical option, with an increase of over 10% year on year.  Women account for 82.5% of all patients at The Harley Medical Group, which has been offering male and female facial rejuvenation procedures since 1983.

Says Liz Dale, Director, The Harley Medical Group: “Many women will have thought about having treatment on a particular part of their body for years before coming to see us.  In most cases it appears having a younger partner is simply a catalyst to taking positive action to reduce the appearance of, for example, a furrowed forehead or sagging jowls.  Women aged over 45 are increasingly citing divorce and embarking on a new relationship as reasons for years undergoing rejuvenation treatments.”

Mark Keenan the founder of the online divorce service, Divorce Online, comments: “Women are increasingly factoring in extra money in their divorce settlements for cosmetic treatments.  After a stressful, unhappy divorce period many want to overhaul their life and often having a relationship with a younger man helps them feel energised.  We are seeing more and more women making the most of the extra money and time they have by, for example, going travelling, buying a car or getting some cosmetic work done – our clients see it as part of the starting-over process.”
