Sports injuries could cost you

Each weekend thousands of amateur sportsmen and sportswomen take part in one or several sporting activities.

There are 30 million amateur sports injuries every year, according to research by insurer Cardif Pinnacle. Of these about one in ten need hospital treatment as a result, and half of those need at least six days off work to recover.

Injury can hit you hard in the wallet, if you are one of those who needs time off work. Steve Devine, of Cardif Pinnacle says: “How would you cope financially if you had to take time off work with a sporting injury? It is important to consider the financial implications of a sporting injury, and how you would pay for any additional costs incurred during recovery, in addition to meeting those everyday domestic expenses? ” And then there’s the mortgage still to pay.

If you are worried about losing income through an activity that you undertake regularly, you might like to consider income protection insurance.
