Spending review offers opportunities

Benenden Healthcare welcomes the possibility of a closer relationship between the government and mutual organisations providing public services.

The recent spending review made reference to greater opportunities for not-for-profit organisations to supply public services, paid for by the government, via reform of the way services are funded.

Ken Hesketh at Benenden Healthcare says, “There is a desire to support the creation and expansion of mutuals, and other like-minded organisations, and enable these groups to have much greater involvement in the running of public services. Benenden Healthcare would like to work closely with the Government on this, as we feel that mutuals have a large role to play in the UK healthcare market. Our work complements the NHS.We believe strongly in maintaining the strength of a national health service but also look for ways in which we can support the work of the NHS with our own not-for-profit, mutual model of healthcare. If the government wishes to work with us to improve the provision of public services, then we would welcome the opportunity to increase the quality of healthcare provision in the UK and support the NHS.”
