UK holidaymakers face travel insurance risk

With 76% over 50s choosing to include UK short trips and holidays in their annual travel plans, Saga has enhanced its travel insurance.

Travel costs can still be substantial for a UK based break, with rail ticket prices expected to rise by 8% in the next year and fuel getting more expensive.  This combined with the nightly hotel costs in the UK, highlights the importance of having the peace of mind that if somebody falls ill while on holiday in the UK, friends or family members are able to stay by their loved one's side, or travel to be with them if they require a stay in hospital.

Roger Ramsden of Saga says, "Many people mistakenly believe that travel insurance provides the same cover whether you are travelling in the UK or abroad, but it is important to check as this is not always the case. While the NHS meet medical costs in the UK, if you are admitted to a hospital many miles from home many policies simply don't cover the costs for a loved one to travel and remain with you throughout.  To take this worry out of travelling, we have included this cover as standard within our travel insurance policies to provide peace of mind to the many thousands of over 50s who choose to take breaks in the UK."

Saga covers transport and accommodation, at £5,000 for reasonable extra charges, but many competitors either provide no cover or lower limits.
