New treatment helps fertility patients

New infertility treatment that can help up to 80 per cent of the UK's infertile couples has received positive peer-reviewed results.

Research published in European Obstetrics & Gynaecology revealed DuoFertility to be just as effective over six months as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and even more successful over a 12-month period.

Lead author Dr Oriane Chausiaux has been studying fertility problems for more than ten years and she said: "We have been observing higher than anticipated pregnancy rates with this programme for some time."

Dr Oriane feels DuoFertility is a viable alternative to the more invasive IVF treatment.

The new treatment means the patient only needs to wear a subtle body monitor and be subject to consultancy.

The research found that DuoFertility had a one-year clinical pregnancy rate of 39 per cent which is favourable to IVF's rate of 26 per cent.

More women aged 20 to 45 visit their doctor for infertility treatment than for any other reason bar pregnancy, according to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
