Good diet could reduce cancer risk


The risk of developing certain cancers is impacted by an individual's diet, although it is an area that requires further research.


That is according to Greatvine.com nutrition consultant Charlotte Stirling-Reed, who suggested that this is a view that is held by many health experts with studies linking a number of conditions to the consumption of certain foods.


"Most experts believe that fruit and vegetables and the antioxidants they contain do help reduce the risk of cancers," she said.


Ms Stirling-Reed added that the World Health Organisation noted that there is an increased risk of cancer developing for people who are obese or overweight.


The comments follow the publication of a study in the journal Nutrition and Cancer, conducted by Marshall University School of Medicine in the US, which found that tumour growth and occurrence was minimised when mice had walnuts added to their diets.


It suggested that breast cancer risk could be lowered by human consumption.
