Private healthcare 'offers piece of mind'

An insurance professional has suggested that private health cover is often seen as offering extra piece of mind.

Kelly Ostler-Coyle, media relations officer and a specialist in health and protection insurance at the Association of British Insurers, said that "some people just want extra piece of mind of being able to be seen quicker, or have access to cancer drugs that might not be available on the NHS".

She added that employers may want to consider offering healthcare policies to their workers as an added perk.

This could be seen as "a good way of [maintaining] employee retention", she said.

The comments follow reports from Citywire that the International Monetary Fund claimed that healthcare reform is set to be one of the top fiscal challenges facing governments in the 21st century.

Private healthcare policies can offer "flexibility" as well as the possibility of being able to have consultations and operations earlier, Ms Ostler-Coyle added.
