Teachers are 'using summer for cosmetic surgery'

The number of teachers using their summer holidays to get cosmetic surgery has doubled, according to a UK company.

Transform Cosmetic Surgery group reported that the share of their clients who are teachers has more than doubled this year to 4.4 per cent from 2.1 per cent in 2008.

Penny Langton, a spokesperson for the company, said that July and August are the most popular months for teachers to get surgery.

She said: "Teachers' attention definitely turns to procedures they can undergo to improve aspects of their body or face, this is because the break provides them with enough time to recover."

The most popular procedure performed for teachers at Transform was eye bag removal, which was carried out on 48 per cent of customers in that occupation.

A blog post on Donga.com suggested that a proposal to put ten per cent VAT on certain plastic surgery operations is causing debate in the US, because it is not clear if this surgery is a form of value-added consumption.
