Fortis, the bank and insurer, became the latest victim of the financial crisis this weekend, prompting the governments of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands to invest a total EUR 11.2 billion in the respective Fortis bank institutions in each country.
For Fortis UK it is business as usual for the UK insurance arm.
Fortis is a keystone of Dutch and Belgian financial scene. It is the largest consumer bank in Belgium and Luxembourg and one of the largest lenders. It owns several insurers in Europe.
