Quinn problems

Ireland’s second largest insurer Quinn is at the centre of a major legal, financial and political battle, involving a major Irish business group, courts, regulators, politicians, bank loans and a failed bank.

In the UK, Quinn Insurance is banned from renewing any policies or accepting any new business.

In Ireland, Quinn Insurance has been placed in provisional administration pending a High Court hearing in Dublin on 19 April.

Quinn Health bought Bupa’s business in Ireland and is continuing as normal with renewals and new business.

It is a hugely complicated matter, but at least one report on a UK health insurance website, has got important details wrong by suggesting alternative UK insurers including AA, Bupa, Aviva and Axa- that Quinn Health customers could use.

Quinn Health only offers health insurance in Ireland, it does not write health insurance in the UK.

UK health insurers are not authorized to write health insurance for domestic Irish business. Apart from Quinn Health, the only two commercial health insurers are the state owned VHI and Aviva Group Ireland’s subsidiary Aviva Health Insurance Ireland.
