In a bid to combat the taboo surrounding death, Co-operative Insurance (CIS) and Co-operative Funeralcare have joined forces to launch Funeral Plan, giving people the assurance that they have set out their funeral wishes – and made sound financial provision to meet the costs.
As the UK’s leading funeral director with access to over 1,200 funeral homes across the country, Co-operative Funeralcare will take full responsibility for carrying out a person’s funeral plan in a professional, sensitive, and caring manner.
The CIS Funeral Plan offers customers a choice of three options– Standard, Select or Premier, which have been designed to suit personal preferences for burial or cremation. Choosing the type of funeral in advance means that people benefit from the assurance that the arrangements will be conducted in accordance with their wishes.
Fiona Jackson, Co-operative Insurance Head of Protection, said: “Many people from all walks of life and backgrounds can benefit from pre-paying for their funeral. It is an ideal way of making sure that their funeral will be taken care of in accordance with their wishes. Planning for a funeral in this way helps to break down the barriers that exist in terms of talking about death and provides dependants and relatives with the confidence that they are carrying out their loved ones last wishes.”
The Plan is unique in that both the financial institution and the funeral director providing it are part of the same organisation, the Co-operative Group. This allows greater control over the quality of the funeral, which is provided by a network of more than 1,200 Co-operative funeral directors in the UK and is available through a network of CIS financial advisers. Payment can be by a lump sum or instalments.
