Fund raising is a piece of cake!

Holding the Macmillan Coffee Morning charity event was ‘a piece of cake’ for three nurses with much tougher fund-raising plans on the horizon.

Stella Chapman, Julia Busby and Karen Palmer were happy to sell cakes to staff and visitors at the BMI Priory Hospital in Edgbaston, but that’s not where the money-raising ends for these three charity champs.

Stella is currently training for the Great South Run – a ten-mile race to be held in Portsmouth at the end of October – while Julian and Karen have their sights on completing the Inca Trail in Peru in May next year.

“We are always looking for ways to raise both funds and awareness said Stella, the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse at BMI Priory. “Everyone enjoys the annual coffee morning event but it is important we keep the work of Macmillan in the public eye all year round.”

For Julia, haematology nurse specialist and Karen, a Macmillan Palliative Care Sister, the Inca Trail will be another on their list of challenges, having completed an 80-mile trek across the Sahara Desert in 2008.

The couple are presently organising a series of events to fund the trip.
