Older unemployed people have been informed that cosmetic surgery could help their chances of landing a job, according to a healthcare professional.
Dr Michel Siegel, a Houston plastic surgeon, has pointed out that in the current economic climate there are many people in their forties and fifties who are out of work and going to interviews.
He claimed that when these age groups go up against people younger than them, older people can look tired.
"You have got to level the playing field. Cosmetic procedures do exactly that for a lot of my patients," Dr Siegel explained.
In his view, people can often be just as qualified as each other, but those who look "younger and fresher" will have the competitive edge.
Last week, a new law was passed in California, requiring people to have a health check before they go through with cosmetic surgery.
It has been named the Donda West law, after the mother of rap star Kanye West.
