Research reveals that winter sports policies contain caveats and differences in wording makes small print in insurance documents crucial reading.
On top of the usual criteria, such as cancellation and baggage cover, these policies also cover for extras such as sports equipment but will vary widely on the maximum benefit you can claim for in the event of theft or damage; the same scenario applies to cover for ski pass or pack expenses. Policies will also vary on their rules for piste closure, avalanche closure and going off-piste.
Most policies will not cover skiers who go off-piste. The handful that will cover it charge an extra premium.
