The first annual report since Ramsay Health Care entered the UK market has revealed that the private hospital company is exceeding expectations.

Ramsay has been established in Australia for over 40 years and now has over 100 hospitals across Australia, Indonesia and the UK.

Its latest figures show that hospital admissions increased by 23 per cent from 2007 to 2008 in the UK.

The private healthcare provider also signed a public sector care contract in 2004 under which it will treat 95,000 NHS patients over five years, and figures show that its NHS activity was up 237 per cent in 2008 over the prior year.

Jill Watts, chief executive of Ramsay Health Care UK, commented: "I am delighted that the UK business has been integrated so smoothly.

"Our results so far show that the strengths of the UK business have been further enhanced by becoming part of the Ramsay group."

The company currently has 22 acute hospitals in England, having purchased Capio Healthcare UK as well as the Nottingham Woodthorpe Hospital from General Healthcare Group.
