Healthcare is a top priority during these tough economic times.
This is one of the headline findings of the latest independent research undertaken on behalf of Westfield Health, one of the UK’s leading not for profit health insurance providers.
Policyholders were asked where they would look to make savings as household budgets come under greater pressure.
The survey looked at 22 of the most common regular household outgoings and Westfield Health cash plans were rated a higher priority than essentials like home insurance, utility bills and even food. Only mortgage or rent payments were considered more important.
The most likely areas where policyholders would be looking to make savings included clothes, satellite TV and holidays. 91 per cent said they were unlikely to cut back on their health cash plan compared to only 36 per cent unlikely to cut back on clothes.
A majority agreed that they now place even more value on products that help them to spread the cost of their routine healthcare expenses. They strongly agreed that they would keep up their visits to the dentist and optician, despite the pressures on their pockets.
Westfield Health Chief Executive Jill Davies says: “These findings do demonstrate very clearly that healthcare generally remains a real top priority for people, even when faced with difficult decisions in terms of managing their budgets."
