Britons are set to borrow £1.4 billion in loans this year in a bid to fund their desire for
cosmetic surgery, financial experts have said.
According to researchers at Abbey Loans, 918,000 Brits intend to take out a loan so that they can afford cosmetic surgery, with the main procedure on women's wish-list being breast enlargement.
Over a quarter of all cosmetic surgery procedures involve breast implants, while tummy tucks are not far behind on 25 per cent.
The desire to achieve the body beautiful is also not confined to females, as Abbey Loans found that a third of cosmetic surgery hopefuls are men.
Paul Morrish, head of Abbey Loans, confirmed that he has noticed "an increase in requests to borrow for plastic surgery".
"Whether striving for visible perfection or as part of a medical treatment, plastic surgery is getting more and more popular amongst Britons," he said.
The survey also revealed that a significant number of people choose to visit eastern Europe for cosmetic surgery, while two per cent pick the US as their medical tourism destination.
