Bupa opens emergency treatment centre

Bupa has opened a casualty clinic at Wellesley Hospital in Southend Essex which offers treatments for minor injuries or illness, Health Insurance and Protection Magazine reports. The clinic will operate on Saturdays and is in reaction to an increased demand from patients who need fast diagnosis and will pay for it.

Sandra Harrington, ward manager at Bupa Hospital Wellesley said there would be many who might benefit from the after-hours care at Wellesley, that people who lead busy lifestyles might not always have time to see their GP.

"Most policies should cover the treatment from their emergency clinic attendance and this has been the case for a variety of patients that have already attended the clinic," she added.

The initiative at Wellesley is the latest in a line of Bupa service enhancements recently, that range from a comprehensive flu pandemic service that has vast supplies of the anti-viral drug Tamiflu, and increased cover for subscribers' chronic conditions.
