Bupa has won the top honour at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development annual People Management Award.
The Care Homes Personal Best programme encourages the staff carers in their 297 homes to provide individual service to each resident.
The Personal Best program involves home staff taking the initiative to go beyond the call of duty, to innovatively provide a better service to their residents.
Bupa care services spokesman Dean Cowley said: "They really understand that it's often the little things that mean a lot."
The programme launched in 2004 as an attempt to have carers put themselves in their resident's shoes in order to empathize with them more completely.
Spanish Bupa Care Homes will see the programme launched in their areas shortly, as a result of the added success of the British programme.
