Patients who are
suffering sleep disorders and lack of concentration due to stress have been urged to ensure they
participate in enough physical activity throughout the day to help lower their
anxiety levels.
As well as affecting sleep patterns, stress can lead to chemical imbalances
in the body and increases the workload of major organs in the body and can
ultimately cause conditions such as heart disease, said the founder of Taming
the Pound Kim Stephenson.
She stated that instead of turning to artificial coping mechanisms such as
drugs or alcohol, patients should take up exercise to help reduce their stress
levels.
"Physical activity, even walking, is a good stress reducer, keeps you
fitter and doesn't need to cost anything," Ms Stephenson added.
Neil Shah, director of The Stress Management
Society, recently advised people to manage Christmas tasks with a list and
delegate to avoid raising stress levels further during the festive period.
