Commenting on the Royal College of Nursing
warning that the NHS is heading for crisis point with 56,058 NHS positions
across the UK due to be cut, Debbie Kleiner-Gaines from the Association of
Medical Insurance Intermediaries says, “There are already real concerns over
growing NHS waiting lists with some hospitals delaying non-life threatening
surgery to save money, but when you hear the nurses highlight the severe cut in
frontline nursing jobs this will not only have a further worsening impact on
those waiting lists but potentially the quality of patient care as a whole.”
She adds, “For those thinking private healthcare would now be a
preferable option if and when they need treatment rather than the NHS, private
health insurance could be a consideration."
