Childhood obesity treatment involves more than just a greater awareness of healthy foods, an
expert has said.
Anne Finnemore, a hypnotherapist and stress manager, believes the approach
to tackling the obesity problem should be based on three methods.
Parents and schools should encourage children to eat a wide range of healthy
foods from an early age, as this will minimise the risk of them developing a
need of unhealthy foods, stated Ms Finnemore.
She said children must learn to enjoy exercise so they are more likely to
want to stay fit and maintain a healthy weight.
Finally, she believes a child's relationship with food needs to be balanced
as this will determine adult eating patterns.
Her comments came after a British Heart Foundation survey revealed 32 per
cent of British 11 to 15-year olds are now obese or overweight and more eat
crisps as a lunchtime snack than eat fruit.
