People with HIV being treated unfairly by life insurers

Compass Mortgage and Insurances

A survey by intermediary Unusual Risks says that few life insurers offer life policies to HIV positive people. It accuses the industry of living in the dark ages and stigmatising HIV positive clients.

Unusual Risks is a recently launched brand of Compass Mortgage and Insurances, for people looking for products in unusual circumstances. The service is specifically designed for those with pre-existing medical conditions, hazardous occupations and higher risk pastimes.

Chris Morgan at Unusual Risks says, “It is apparent that the majority of companies are still living in the dark ages and attaching a stigma to HIV. The survey established that either companies are avoiding the issue completely by not offering cover, or in the main offering completely inadequate, over-priced products and services to HIV positive applicants."
