Research has suggested that elderly people in care homes
could benefit from being offered exercise programmes.
The study, which was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, found that community-dwelling older people could improve a range of health issues by following a music-based exercise programme.
Their gait and balance could both be advanced, which could reduce their risk of falling.
Indeed, following the publication of the study Sheila Merril, home safety manager for England from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, said that keeping active is a good way to prevent older people from falling.
Ms Merril said that just "keeping moving" can do a lot to help keep people active and improve their balance.
She added: "If older people can do everyday activities like moving about the house and doing jobs in the house and the garden they should continue to do so because it is important to keep moving."
