Dr Hilary Jones urges Britons to "Inspect their health!"

Dr Hilary Jones asked the country to take a closer look at their health as he launched a wellness campaign in London last night. The celebrity doctor joined BMI Healthcare CEO Adrian Fawcett and HR representatives, GPs, consultants, nurses, insurers and charities at the hospital group's "Inspect Your Health!" kick-off event.

Over the next year, the leading hospital chain will be dispatching nursing teams to deliver mini health checks to thousands of people throughout the UK. The checks will include tests for BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose, four important indicators for some of Britain's most prevalent diseases. BMI hospitals will be bringing the checks to people at their workplaces or local shopping centres, at no cost and with no need for an appointment.

Dr Hilary, who also practices as a GP conducting health checks at BMI The Hampshire Clinic in Basingstoke is proudly supporting the campaign. He said, “I have been providing health checks to patients for several years now and have seen the difference it can make in people’s lives. I think it’s fantastic that BMI hospitals are volunteering its staff to provide this important free service to their local businesses and communities. To get all these tests and results in one sitting at your workplace or shopping centre is a unique opportunity.”

He added, “Especially during tough economic times when people are less likely to take time off work to see their GP, it's easy for people to leave their health concerns at the bottom of their priority list. The 'Inspect Your Health!' campaign will make it very convenient for people all over the country to access a series of tests which can help determine some of the UK’s most widespread health risks before they become too serious. Some people are sceptical or intimidated by health checks, but the bottom line is that early detection can save lives."

Mr Fawcett said, “Our hospital staff know well the value of health checks – everyday seeing first-hand what conditions can be successfully overcome when detected early and the struggles involved when risks and illnesses are discovered too late. This is why we offer free full head-to-toe health assessments as a standard employee benefit and why we are now offering checks for free at our local businesses and shopping centres. I hope that people will take advantage of this important campaign and learn how they can improve their chances for a longer, healthier life.”

BMI hospitals will begin holding "Inspect Your Health" screening and health promotion events at businesses and shopping centres from November 2010 through to October 2011.
