The new dementia unit at Bentley Court Care Home in Wednesfield - part of the Priory Group - has been opened by Slade guitarist Dave Hill.

The music man dropped by recently to open the new purpose-built care home - which has been aptly named Slade Avenue.

Specialist nursing and dementia care services can now be provided for up to 77 residents and the home boasts dementia-signposting to assist with people's orientation.

A reminiscence room is available in which residents can enjoy music, pursue hobbies and play games.

Debbie Rowley, Bentley Court care home manager, said that the team are "very proud" of the dementia care they provide.

"It is so important for those with dementia that hobbies and interests that they once enjoyed at home can be continued when in our care, so we encourage residents to bring items from home and to continue living their lives as normally as possible," she explained.

Sharon Butler, managing director of Priory Group Care Homes Division, added: "We aim to provide all our residents with a living environment designed to give them the greatest levels of privacy, dignity and stimulation."

The Priory Group is Europe's leading independent provider of acute mental health care and care homes.

As well as providing care of the elderly, the Priory Group also offers care for adults with learning or physical disabilities and those with enduring mental health problems.
