Harley Medical Group reports rise in 'silver surgery'

The Harley Medical Group has reported a significant increase in the number of mature adults deciding to go under the knife.

Figures from the UK's biggest cosmetic surgery provider show that cosmetic surgery bookings among 45 to 65-year-olds doubled in 2008.

According to patients' responses, the main motivation for having cosmetic surgery or botox was to prepare for a second marriage.

Liz Dale, director of the Harley Medical Group, commented: "Many patients have thought about surgery for a long time and when they come out of a long-term relationship it can be part of their start afresh strategy.

"Cosmetic surgery helps give our patients renewed confidence as they embark on new relationships and second marriages."

According to the cosmetic surgery group's appointment book, middle-aged women are most likely to have blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow lift, breast uplift, botox or a facelift, while men in that age group tend to have either rhinoplasty or otoplasty (ear pinning).

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery recently told the Associated Press that the credit crunch has brought about an increase in botox treatments as consumers choose to save money by postponing cosmetic surgery.
