Physiotherapy practice launches 'physical MOT'

A leading private physiotherapy practice is introducing a new health check this week, designed to reveal whether any parts of a patient's musculo-skeletal system are functioning below par.

ES Physical Health's new 'physical MOT' test is the first of its kind, offering a valuable way of determining and correcting problems before they become serious.

"With most of us leading sedentary lives we use only approximately 60 per cent of the available range of motion in most joints such as our hips, knees, shoulders and spine," revealed Libby Sharp, founder of ES Physical Health.

"Add the ageing process to this lack of use, and one day you find you simply cannot look round over your shoulder to reverse your car as you once could," Ms Sharp continued.

"It's important to identify bad postural habits and anomalies as early as possible to prevent irreversible degenerative changes."

After conducting a series of tests, which look for tiny abnormalities of balance, gait pattern and range of motion, the clinic provides advice on simple interventions that can help to correct any problems.

Recommendations may include physiotherapy, pilates, a gym routine, a podiatrist consultation to improve lower limb movement, or a visit to a dietician or nutritionist for advice on weight loss or sport nutrition.

The practice, which has clinics in Harley Street and Camberwell, is offering the health check for £150 and suggests that anyone who has ever suffered from a back problem or had an accident, even if it was years ago, could benefit.
