New PET/CT scanner at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital

Bupa Cromwell Hospital

The Bupa Cromwell Hospital, London's premier independent private hospital, has recently taken delivery of a new scanner which is the first of its kind in the UK.

The new Philips PET/CT system, the Gemini TF, was only introduced to the industry this year and the new scanner at the Cromwell Hospital is only the second in Europe to date.

It has joined two new TomoTherapy Hi-Art radiotherapy treatment systems in the hospital's recently-upgraded Cancer Centre and should play an important role in cancer diagnosis.

"We pride ourselves at the Cromwell on providing the latest technology for our patients," commented Madeleine Delaney, executive clinical manager at the hospital.

"We are delighted with our new acquisition from Philips which we feel will complement the new TomoTherapy machines we recently installed in the Cromwell Cancer Centre," she added.

The Gemini TF has raised the bar for spatial resolution and sensitivity, enabling even small lesions to be detected and thereby helping to diagnose cancer in its very early stages.

Image acquisition has also been reduced to less than ten minutes for a whole-body PET scan, regardless of patient size, and the quality of images is much improved.
