Alcohol and stress leading to older-looking skin

Non surgical cosmetic treatment

Many Britons are looking older than their age, with alcohol-filled lifestyles and the effects of junk food, sun and pollution taking their toll. A study has revealed that those living in the north-east of England and the north-east of London suffer the most, with their 'work hard, play hard' lifestyles contributing to premature ageing.

Dermatologists at sk:n, who carried out a survey involving nearly 1,500 people, found that people living in the south-east and Wales have the youngest skin in Britain, although only 36 per cent of Welsh adults claimed to feel confident in their own skin.

The research also found that women were far more likely to worry about their skin, with 41 per cent expressing concern compared to just 24 per cent of men.

Dr Sean Lanigan, dermatologist and group medical director of sk:n, told Life Style Extra: "The skin is a barometer for our general well-being, so those not feeling comfortable in their own skin should address various lifestyle factors."

Dr Lanigan also said that various skin treatments could be performed to help reverse the consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle.

"Microdermabrasion and skin peels are pain-free and can even out skin tone and reveal new, younger skin and Vistabel (formerly Botox) is a safe and effective way to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles," he revealed.
