Non-surgical procedures outnumber cosmetic surgery

New figures from the ASPS (American Society for Plastic Surgeons) show the rise and rise of non-surgical treatments in America.

According to latest figures, 3,174,957 non-surgical procedures were performed in the USA in 2010 and 996,982 cosmetic surgery procedures.

Part of the discrepancy is due to the fact that non-surgical procedures are usually repeated 2 or 3 times a year to maintain the benefit, as they tend to be temporary.  However, a growth of 14% compared to 2009 also shows the numbers of new patients coming in for treatments such as BOTOX, fillers and chemical peels.

By comparison, the number of cosmetic surgery procedures performed grew by 3%, so at 14%, non-surgical procedures are outpacing surgical procedures, offering immediacy of result with less healing time, lower costs and less risk than surgery.

BOTOX remains the most popular choice, with 1,969,718 performed in 2010 – an increase of 22% compared to 2009, making wrinkle-relaxing injections the fastest growing treatment option.

A spokesperson from The Hospital Group, UK leader in cosmetic treatments, said: “We are seeing strong interest in non-surgical treatments and our enquiries are up 30% already in 2010 compared to 2009.

Non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX, fillers and peels are highly effective anti-aging treatments.  They are intensive therapies with dramatic results in easing lines and wrinkles.

For a first time patient, we would always recommend a full skin analysis with one of our expert Aesthetic Nurses.  Discussion about your requirements and close examination of your skin is essential to ensure you get the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

For example, BOTOX is highly effective at easing lines on the forehead.  However, for deep vertical lines between the eyebrows or from the nose to mouth, fillers are usually more effective at “plumping out” the lines.  Chemical peels provide an all over benefit, gently erasing fine lines through deep exfoliation.”

The Hospital Group has clinics across the UK and Ireland offering anti-aging treatments.  Consultations with their team of specialist Aesthetic Nurses are free and without obligation.
