New skin treatment - "remarkable improvement"

A new type of skin resurfacing technology has been announced which claims to improve skin colour, smooth fine lines, lighten skin discolouration and gently tighten the skin.

The Palomar LUX1540 fractional laser skin treatment has been announced by the Skin Centre Medical Spa in Pittsburgh, US, which is now offering the new procedure to patients who want to heal their damaged skin.

Laser light is applied to the skin using a collection of microbeads which penetrate the top layer of the skin, stimulating healing below the surface.

A built-in cooling process helps to protect the surface of the skin while the laser treatment is being administered and also means that the procedure can be carried out without an anaesthetic.

According to Dr Dominic Brandy, founding medical director of the Skin Centre Medical Spa, the technology is producing a "remarkable improvement in sun damage and aging skin".

"This technology is a non-invasive way for men and women to improve the overall health of their skin without the redness or side effects," he said.

The spa recommends a series of treatments, as each session only treats 25 per cent of the skin.
