New child private medical insurance from AXA

AXA PPP healthcare has introduced a private medical insurance plan exclusively for children.

First Healthcare has been designed to offer reassurance to parents at an affordable price.

The plan covers early access to consultations with specialists as well as outpatient tests and scans to establish early diagnosis. And, if hospital treatment is required as an in-patient or a day-patient, First Healthcare pays for private hospital treatment straight away if the NHS cannot treat a child within six weeks of needing treatment.

Additional features include the cost of parent accommodation when they need to stay with a child under 11 in hospital overnight and telephone access to a team of healthcare professionals 24 hours a day all year round.

Geoff Salter, AXA PPP healthcare head of product management, says: "First Healthcare is for people who may not be able to afford private healthcare cover for their whole family but who want to make sure their children are covered. It will give parents peace of mind knowing that their children can be seen promptly as a private patient."

The monthly premium is £9.99 for the first child covered and £7.99 for each additional child.

First Healthcare covers children up to 18 years old. After their 18th birthday, members can continue with the plan or choose cover from one of AXA PPP healthcare's range of medical insurance policies.

Children can currently get private medical insurance through family policies or they can have an adult policy taken out for them, but there are no policies designed and priced for children.
