More breast reductions for men

New figures reveal that record numbers of men are undergoing breast reduction surgery in order to improve their physical appearance and boost their self-confidence.

Data published by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) reveal that there was a 27 per cent increase in the number of men having fat removed from their breasts last year.

Surgeons affiliated with the association carried out a procedure to remove large breasts - a condition known as gynaecomastia - on 224 men in 2007, figures show.

Dalia Nield, a consultant plastic surgeon at the London Clinic, told the Times: "In the past men probably put up with having strange shaped bodies, or developing breasts.

"Now men know there is a solution. They regard operations as a way of giving them a better quality of life. It is rare for men to come to me because they want to look like one of the Chippendales."
