Medical travel specialist warns against cutting back cover

Specialist travel insurance provider Insurance With warns holidaymakers with pre-existing medical conditions not to ignore travel insurance or assume free cover will protect them.

Fiona Macrae says that free travel insurance with a bank or credit card provider will not usually cover them if they have any pre-existing medical condition. “The increase to 20% on the insurance tax for travel insurance from 4 January does put a rather sizable amount onto the average travel insurance premium. Reduce your premiums by ensuring you are only buying cover for your needs, for example £5m cover for medical expenses is probably more than enough, paying extra for £10m medical cover is probably unnecessary. One place where you should not cut corners is cover for your pre-existing medical conditions, and using a travel insurance provider who specialises in your pre-existing medical condition, like us, will save you money in the long run.”
