Could private maternity help alleviate BPA concerns?

BPA is a chemical found in baby bottles, plastic containers, dental sealants and the linings of cans used in food.

People considering having a child might want to look into private maternity services if they are concerned about the effects of bisphenol A (BPA) on unborn children.

BPA is a chemical found in baby bottles, plastic containers, dental sealants and the linings of cans used in food.

It is created in the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonated plastics.

However, a recent study published in the journal Reproductive Toxicology has found that direct exposure of a pregnant woman to BPA can result in a higher chance of her baby having a low birth rate.

The research, which monitored more than 1,000 workers in factories in China, also found that even women whose spouses were exposed to the chemical had an increased risk of giving birth to a smaller child.

According to the paper, more research is required into the issue but this latest information does add to the emerging body of evidence relating to the safety and risks of BPA exposure.
