The latest survey from ASAPS, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, into consumer attitudes, has shown that cosmetic surgery is now widely approved by Americans.

In 2010, 48% of the population said they approved of Plastic Surgery. In 2011, the figure has risen to 51%, an increase of 3%.

A staggering 20% of those asked said that their attitude to cosmetic surgery is more favorable now than 5 years ago.

Women are slightly more positive towards cosmetic surgery – 53% approved of it, compared to 49% of men.

Cosmetic surgery has traditionally been thought of as the preserve of the rich and famous, but this is no longer the case.  Surgery now appeals right across the demographics.

While 56% of respondents in the highest income category (over $75k) approved of cosmetic surgery, 52% of respondents in the lowest income category (under $25K) also approved of cosmetic surgery and 29% of these would actively consider having cosmetic surgery for themselves.

67% of those asked would not be embarrassed if their friends and family knew they had cosmetic surgery.

A spokesperson for The Hospital Group, leading providers of cosmetic surgery in the UK, said “These statistics very much reflect the trends in the UK.  We are seeing interest for cosmetic surgery increase each year and right across the demographics.  Our latest figures at The Hospital Group show that cosmetic surgery enquiries have risen by 19% year on year, +16% for female patients and up a massive 43% for men.

"For patients considering a surgical procedure, our Surgeons are completely dedicated to aesthetic work.  We perform literally thousands of procedures each year and understand the very individual requirements of each patient.

"We also provide essential aftercare to ensure that patients get the best possible results.  In cosmetic surgery, we include a lifetime of free aftercare with each procedure for our patients’ absolute peace of mind.”
