Weight loss surgery could potentially be the answer to reducing the severe stigma that comes with being overweight.
New research has revealed that people who are overweight are often stereotyped straight away as careless and idle.
The investigation saw a group of participants observe overweight and skinny individuals, after which they were expected to pass judgement on what they had seen.
The participants observed a thin person watching TV whilst lying down and came to the conclusion that they were most likely relaxing, however, when presented with an overweight person in the same scenario, the panel automatically deemed the individual 'lazy'.
It seems that in today's society obese people are being stereotyped without a second thought, with labels that may affect social and work relationships.
Obesity is becoming an increasing problem in the UK as the latest figures from the NHS reveal that 24 per cent of adults in England are classed as obese.
Those who want to tackle an obesity problem, can opt for a consultation with a bariatric surgeon at The Hospital Group.
Whilst obesity surgery is by no means an easy option, it can provide lasting, dramatic results, which can help people adopt a healthier lifestyle and change their lives.
The Hospital Group is the UK's biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons.
David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: "Unfortunately many people find that being overweight not only affects their health- but also their long term happiness.
"A potential partner or employer may make a negative assumption about those who are struggling to lose weight. At The Hospital Group we provide a number of different solutions for those people who want to lead a healthier lifestyle. Our bariatric consultants ensure that, as well as having an absolute need for a gastric procedure, the patient understands that weight loss surgery isn't a miracle cure and they would need to work with a gastric band or bypass to achieve the healthier lifestyle and slimmer body they desire."
