Fortis improves critical illness cover

Fortis insurance

Fortis Life has added the Best Doctors service to its Your Life Plan and Real Life Cover plans.

It has also made changes to the Your Life Plan critical illness cover, which now includes 40 definitions. A new definition, multiple system atrophy, has been added to provide cover against this degenerative neurological disorder.

Existing definitions have been improved to make it simpler for customers to claim:

  • Coma: The requirement that life support systems must be in use for 24 hours in order to meet the definition has been removed

  • Heart valve replacement or repair: The need for surgery to divide the breastbone in order to meet the definition has been removed

  • Paralysis of limbs: The number of affected limbs required to meet the definition has been reduced from two to one

  • Third degree burns: The definitions for burns to the face and burns to the body have been combined to it easier for customers to understand
