Obesity treatment could be affected by the sleeping habits of individuals, a new study has revealed.
Research that was presented to the American Thoracic Society's 105th International Conference in San Diego yesterday (May 17th) has found that there is a correlation between the body mass index and the weight of an individual.
The findings suggested that those people who did not get much sleep were more likely to be overweight because their hormonal balance is out of synch and causing them to eat more.
Dr Arn Eliasson, of the Integrative Cardiac Health Project at Walter Reed Army Medical Center who led the study, commented: "We found so many interesting links in our data."
"It could be fascinating to know the results of a carefully designed study that controlled for the many influences on weight gain, while varying sleep parameters and measuring hormonal mediators of appetite and metabolism."
Obesity is responsible for the most number of deaths in the world that could have been prevented.
