There has been a record increase in the number of mothers in Ireland opting to have
cosmetic surgery after giving birth, according to the
Harley Medical Group.
The group, which operates Ireland's leading cosmetic clinic, has registered a 20 per cent increase in demand, with liposuction, tummy tucks and breast uplifts proving to be the most popular procedures.
Liz Dale, a spokeswoman for the Harley Medical Group, said that mums often find that their abdominal muscles are weak, causing the skin to become looser, and want their breasts to be more pert after having a baby.
"All the Harley Medical Group surgeons make sure that post pregnancy patients are in good health and not breast feeding [and] there will be a time period before a post pregnant woman can have surgery," she noted.
"For example Harley Medical advise all post-breastfeeding patients to wait four to six months for breast augmentation and liposuction and tummy tuck patients to wait until they are closer to their ideal weight," she recommended.
