Private hospitals shift focus away from NHS

Nurses UK jobs
Private hospitals are expected to concentrate more on the quality of their provision for private patients after a recent focus on winning NHS-funded contracts, reports suggest.

According to Health Insurance magazine, private healthcare groups are becoming 'sceptical' of the government's commitment to private hospitals treating NHS patients.

Despite offloading its hospitals last year to focus on other areas last year, Bupa has now acquired the Cromwell Hospital in London.

According to Fergus Kee, managing director of Bupa UK Health Insurance, "Bupa has wanted to own a flagship hospital in London for about a decade."

Mr Kee said that the focus will not be on NHS patients, noting that privately insured patients are the "obvious" area for growth as "this is a private facility".

The sale of Bupa Hospitals last year led to the creation of Spire Healthcare, which has confirmed that its focus will be on "premium private healthcare".
