People face a national postcode lottery when it comes to funding for care, a solicitor has claimed.
According to Chris Milne, a partner in the private client department at law firm Harrison Clark, people have to live in the 'right' part of the country to ensure they do not have to pay for
private care for the elderly.
Mr Milne said that, three months after the introduction of new guidelines to provide consistency throughout the country, "the differences across the country in who qualifies for healthcare funding remain huge".
"With the supposedly national guidelines being applied inconsistently by the government, these significant care costs are having to be met by more individuals just because of where they live," the expert revealed.
"It is becoming more and more important to consider the possible payment of care fees when planning your future finances."
According to researchers at Saga, the average cost of a four-year stay in a care home is likely to double over the next two decades.
