Consultant
Mr David Floyd conducts plastic surgery in Channel 4 programme.
Mr Floyd, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Spire Bushey
Hospital, will be featuring
on Channel 4’s flagship
health programme, Embarrassing Bodies, this month, where he will
conduct tummy tuck surgery on a local young woman suffering from muscle
separation in the stomach. As its name suggests, Embarrassing Bodies is
a programme centred on helping patients with health issues that they find
embarrassing or that they have found no help with treating previously.
Helen Formoy, 35, from Amersham met Embarrassing
Bodies resident GP, Dr Jessen to discuss the problems with her stomach she had been
experiencing. Following Dr Jessen’s advice, Helen visited Mr Floyd at Spire Bushey
Hospital in Watford,
Hertfordshire, where he performed abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) surgery.
“During
her pregnancies Helen developed dramatic muscle separation that left her
looking six months pregnant” says Mr Floyd. “This problem can only be corrected with surgery. During an
abdominoplasty an incision is made across the lower abdomen in the bikini line.
The abdominal skin is lifted up to allow repair of the separated abdominal
muscles. This flattens off the 'pot-belly' appearance. The excess skin is then
removed to achieve a smooth contour. A one
night in hospital and ten days off work for recovery is usual.”
Embarrassing
Bodies has on average 3.5 million
viewers per episode and its website is one of Channel 4’s top three online
properties alongside Big Brother and Hollyoaks and has won a BAFTA for
interactivity in 2009.
Mr Floyd and Helen will be
featured on Embarrassing Bodies, Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday 2nd April
2012.
