Three
years after his heart transplant at Papworth
Hospital, 41 year old Kieran Sandwell
from Cambridge
has been clocking up the miles in readiness for this year’s London Marathon on
22 April.
Kieran,
who had a heart transplant at Papworth
Hospital in July 2009
says “The training is going very well and I am now running a distance of 13 miles
which is more than I have ever run before.
I am really looking forward to the big day, although a bit daunted, but
I am sure I will be carried along by the atmosphere.”
Melanie
Lincoln, Physiotherapist at Papworth Hospital said “We are enormously grateful
to Kieran for taking on this amazing challenge to benefit the patients at
Papworth Hospital. He has already worked so hard raising a fantastic £2,200
towards the purchase of a bed bike which helps bed-bound patients, who are on
the long road to recovery after serious illness, to start to take some gentle
exercise.”
Kieran
is determined to raise the final funds needed to purchase the bike by taking
part in the London Marathon. Anyone interested in sponsoring him should visit www.justgiving.com/kieranslondonmarathon
