A seven year contract with Vanguard Healthcare has helped BMI
provide extra capacity at another of its private facilities, BMI The Runnymede
Hospital, in Surrey. The latest stage of the contract, which first started in
September 2004, saw a mobile operating theatre move from its previous location
at the BMI The Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor where it had been deployed
for four years in order to help BMI put together a series of business
development cases for future capital investment.
The on-going and innovative use of Vanguard's mobile
healthcare services by BMI marks a long and well established relationship
between the provider of the world's largest fleet of mobile healthcare
facilities and the UK's largest independent provider of private healthcare. The
latest deployment of the laminar flow mobile operating theatre unit, measuring
8 x 15 metres, enabled BMI to provide additional capacity at The Runnymede
Hospital in North West Surrey from September 2008 until the end of 2011.
Paul McPartlan, Executive Director at BMI Runnymede, said:
"Laminar flow theatres are critical for those medical procedures with high
infection risks, such as orthopaedic operations. By having the Vanguard unit on
site, we were able to manage procedures as we would normally do; giving us the
necessary means to maintain capacity."
BMI Healthcare, the largest independent provider of private
healthcare in the UK, has set the standard for the provision of flexible
healthcare services by consistently employing the innovative solutions made
available by the leading mobile surgical facility provider, Vanguard.
The long-term partnership has seen Vanguard deploy
state-of-the-art mobile operating theatres and wards to a number of BMI
locations, including the BMI The Saxon Clinic in Milton Keynes, which allowed
the hospital to treat 114 extra patients in just one month.
Ian Gillespie, CEO of Vanguard Healthcare Solutions, said:
"For patients using our mobile service, the experience is no different to
that of a permanent operating theatre. For hospitals, the units enable capacity
and standards to be maintained whilst permanent facilities are being
refurbished or extra space is required to meet growing demand for
operations," concluded Ian, "without the need to stretch resources or
resort to more expensive temporary solutions."
With a track record of over ten years in the UK health
sector, together with a diverse and highly qualified base of staff - many of
whom are former NHS executives and clinicians - Vanguard Healthcare has been
able to develop a comprehensive range of flexible mobile solutions,
specifically tailored to meet the requirements of both public and private
hospitals.
